Dear Parents and Carers,
As we experience warmer temperatures, more families are spending time outdoors enjoying paddling pools, rivers, lakes, and the seaside. While this is a wonderful way for children to play and cool off, it also brings an increased risk of accidents, particularly drowning.
Drowning can happen quickly and silently, often in a matter of seconds and even in shallow water. It is therefore essential that children are closely supervised at all times when they are near any type of water—whether at home, on trips, or during leisure activities. This includes Beck Botts.
Please keep the following important safety tips in mind:
- Constant supervision: Always keep children within arm’s reach when they are in or near water. Avoid distractions such as mobile phones or conversations.
- Designate a watcher: Ensure a responsible adult is actively watching children without interruption.
- Check surroundings: Be mindful of hidden hazards in natural water, such as currents, uneven ground, and sudden drops.
- Teach water safety: Encourage children to understand basic water safety rules and, where possible, consider swimming lessons.
- Empty and secure: After use, empty paddling pools and ensure they are safely stored to prevent unsupervised access.
By staying vigilant and proactive, we can help ensure that children remain safe while enjoying the outdoors during this warmer weather.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping our children safe.
